The animal care program at The Forsyth Institute exists to support the research endeavors designed to promote the mission. These research efforts are varied and include immunology, microbiology, public health, and bone and mineralized tissue biology. Animal models are a key component of many of these areas of research. Forsyth also maintains a program making use of our underutilized laboratory space, leasing out laboratory space for small start-up “incubator” companies. These companies have access to the Forsyth Animal Facility and are governed by all the rules and regulations that are applied to the in-house users of the facility – there is no difference in the requirements for these incubator companies and our federally funded investigators.
The use of the animal facility by these companies advances our mission in two main ways: providing access to an expanded repertoire of research approaches with opportunities for scientific interactions, and making use of underutilized laboratory space.
